Lessons at the Studio

The lessons will include the materials of music, aesthetic values and spiritual growth. The materials of music are found in a study of music theory. Asethetic values deal with the philosophical theory as to what is beautiful. Spiritual growth pertains to the intellectual and higher endowments of the mind.

The materials are presented in modules which may be studied separately, in parallel or omitted. Beginning students will be presented with chords, scales, reading music and tablature. Experienced students will be evaluated for a starting point to continue study.

The first step is to get a guitar that is the right size with an easy to play action and in tune.

Check for a straight neck and the height of the srings from the frets.

To begin playing we will strum the open strings in even rythm working for a quality sound. Change to playing the first three strings. The first chord is G7 with three strings. The second chord is C with three strings. This will be the start of Chords 1.

Melody playing will be single string technique with tablature, reading notes or playing by ear. This is the foundation for playing scales.

Once basic playing is achieved we will begin listening to the extensive mp3 library or any other selected recordings of interest. From listening we can determine what is needed to play a particular style. Classical students will be presented with the literature for guitar and recordings of many classical guitarists.
